The Harrogate and Knaresborough Green Party were informed by the police on 5th June that two
arrests were made in connection with a statement in the leaflet distributed by the Liberal Democrats
in the Hookstone, Stray and Woodlands by-election in April.
We have been contacted by the press but have merely confirmed information already in the public
domain. If an apology and offer of restitution had been received then this situation would have
been avoided, but neither have been forthcoming. The subsequent action we took was on the advice
of the elections team at North Yorkshire Council. We believe that elections should be conducted
with honesty and integrity to encourage lively democracy.
